A powerful fusion of dance, martial arts, and mindfulness practices, Nia is a holistic movement & wellness practice addressing each aspect of your life - body, mind, and soul.

  • Nia is accessible to all, regardless of age, health or fitness level.

  • Using a system of 52 simple moves, each Nia workout delivers full-body conditioning leaving you energized, mentally clear, and emotionally balanced.

  • Practiced barefoot, Nia’s purpose is to inspire and guide people to listen to the wisdom of the body, choose movement that feels good, and find connection in community. (grippy socks recommended if you like toasty feet:)

  • Nia is for every person who desires to discover, explore, unleash, and enhance their individual potential to live a healthy and meaningful life.

We look forward to dancing and moving authentically with you in a safe space for you to be creative, vulnerable, joyous, playful, ecstatic,... and always, uniquely you.

Let's dance!

Parking is free on the street in front of the building. There is a grassy knoll that you may park in directly behind the building off Cypress, please park only behind 769 Meeting St and not the neighbor's buildings. The ground is uneven so please watch your step. There is a sidewalk that leads to the front door or to the wheelchair ramp in back. Please let us know in advance if you need to use the wheelchair ramp so that we can make sure to unlock the back door for you! (843) 580-2005 or dr.cat@catherinelewan.com <3

Nia is an accessible form of dance fitness that can be modified for all body types and levels. Authentic, joyful expression is prioritized over mastery of technique or form. Let the groovy beats lead you to a unique experience that moves your soul and shakes your spirit to the core! You decide how much or little to put into your dance, and the results will be different each time-- listen to your intuition and your body and let it be your guide. You'll forget you are strengthening your core, improving your balance, and improving your cardiovascular health because you are having fun and enjoying a unique cathartic and social experience! Bare feet or grippy socks are recommended, bring a water bottle so you can stay hydrated, Nia is performed in a carefully cultivated safe space for all to come as they are and honor their needs. No dance experience needed. The only pre-requisite is that you show up and breathe:) As with all classes at MWC, your boundaries will be respected-- skip anything, change anything, modify anything, enhance anything so that it is a better fit for you. So long as it is safe, we are here to support whatever you need to get the most from your experience!
